Dreams

Dear Chicago, It’s not you – it’s us.

We need to “take a break”.

Lakeshore Drive

We came to Chicago 2 newlyweds. It took some time, but Chicago became home. Three children, four career changes, and 10 years later, we are wiser, but less sure, deeper, but searching, hopeful, but exhausted. For the last several years, we have been on a journey trying to understand our family’s role in God’s plan. There have been many peaks and valleys, hardships and disappointments, closed doors and confusion. We have continued to see God provide and bless, though the years of waiting and scraping by – and finally, uprooting to a new part of the city – have taken their toll.

Thus, we find ourselves seeking a sabbatical of sorts. A new season. One to explore, not just geographically, but to discover new dreams and goals. To rest and be together without the cultural and social constraints of schedules (whether that be from school, commuting, multiple commitments, etc). To pursue passions. And to rekindle friendships we’ve neglected over the years.

Leaving Chicago

When it was time to start thinking about where to look for a new apartment (and consequently, new school), it inspired such a feeling of dread and of being trapped that a desperately crazy and wonderful idea began to form. Why not live…anywhere? Everywhere? No address required. The crazy idea has grown and matured into 35ft Class A RV in which we will spend the coming year traveling the country – staying here and there for a week or two at a time. We will be starting this summer by going East and North, then head down the coast and make our way along the southern states (no thanks, Winter). Then up the West coast, and eventually find ourselves in Colorado and beyond.

Chicago, you are beautiful and we love you, but you can be unforgiving. We need to take a break…Our plan is to come back to this first urban love, but we are open to what the year ahead holds.

Follow our journey
